- World Blood Donor Day Celebration Navodaya Medical College Hospital and Research Centre, Raichur
To commemorate World Blood Donor Day, a Voluntary blood donation camp was organized on 25th June 2024 at Dr. C.M. Gurumurthy Hall, NMCH&RC, Raichur from 9.00AM to 5.00PM by Blood Centre, Department of Pathology, Navodaya Medical College. The camp started after a brief inauguration ceremony.
The inaugural function was presided by Dean/Principal NMC Dr. B. Devanand, Guest of Honor for the event was Dr. T. Srinivas, Registrar Navodaya Education Trust, Incharge Medical Superintendent NMCH&RC Dr. Anupama Taklikar, Director IP&SA NET Dr. P. Vijaykumar, CEO NMCH&RC Dr. Mallikarjun J. Reddy, RMO NMCH&RC Dr. Narayan Pendlikal, Program Director Dr. Anand A. S. Professor and HOD Department of Pathology and Dr. Ashraf A. Zubair Medical Officer, Blood Centre NMCH&RC were among the other dignitaries on the dias.
The theme for the occasion was “20 years of celebrating giving: thank you blood donors!” and the event served to thank and recognize voluntary, non-remunerated blood donors for their life-saving gifts of blood and also to promote promote a culture of regular blood donation among young people and increase the diversity and sustainability of the blood donor pool.
Dr. T. Srinivas in his address, emphasized the use of blood and blood components in saving lives and he recalled the famous slogan “Donate Blood, Save Lives”. He also briefed about the various uses of components and advocated that one donor can help save three lives. He urged the doctor’s community at large, to utilize the blood rationally, to promote and utilize Single Donor Platelets prepared by Apheresis equipment, which is one of its kind, available in this Kalyana Karnataka region.
Dr. B. Devanand in his presidential remarks clarified certain prevalent myths regarding blood donation. He requested members present to motivate themselves and others to donate blood in order to maintain an adequate and continuous supply of Blood and Blood components for needy patients. He also urged clinicians to utilize blood judiciously and avoid wastage as every unit is precious.
Dr. Kajal B. P., Professor, Department of Pathology, NMC welcomed the gathering, Dr. Ashraf A. Zubair, Medical Officer, Blood Bank briefed regarding the occasion and Dr Madhavi K. Associate Professor Department of Pathology NMC, proposed the vote of thanks.
Donors with maximum number of blood donations and who motivated students to voluntarily donate blood, were felicitated by the dignitaries.
A total number of 54 units of blood were collected from the voluntary blood donors which included students and staff of Navodaya group of Institutions, Raichur. The conduction of the entire camp was highly appreciated by the authorities and deemed to be a resounding success
