Voluntary Blood Donation Camp World Blood Donor Day – 14th June 2023 REPORT
As per the directives of DAPCU, Raichur and to commemorate World Blood Donor Day, a Voluntary blood donation camp was organized from 9.00AM to 5.00PM by the Department of Pathology, Navodaya Medical College in the Blood Bank, NMCH&RC on 14th June 2023. The camp started after a brief inauguration ceremony.
The inaugural function was presided by Dr. B . Devanand, Dean/Principal, Navodaya Medical College, Raichur. The Chief Guest for the event was Dr. T. Srinivas, Registrar, Navodaya Education Trust, Brigadier Dr. P.S.K. Patel, Sena Medal, Medical Superintendent, NMCH&RC and Dr. Mallikarjun J. Reddy, CEO, NMCH&RC, Raichur, were the guests of honour. Dr. A.S. Aanand, Vice principal, Professor and HOD, Department of Pathology, NMC, Dr. Amruth Reddy, Core Committee Member, NET, and Dr. Ashraf A. Zubair, Medical Officer, Blood Bank, NMCH&RC were among the other dignitaries on the dias.
Dr. A.S. Aanand, welcomed the gathering, Dr. Ashraf A. Zubair, briefly gave awareness regarding the occasion and Dr Shruti K Assistant Professor, Department of Pathology, NMC, proposed the vote of thanks.
The theme for the occasion was “GIVE BLOOD, GIVE PLASMA, SHARE LIFE, SHARE OFTEN” and the event served to thank voluntary, non-remunerated blood donors for their life-saving gifts of blood and also to raise awareness of the need for regular blood donations to ensure that all individuals and communities have access to affordable and timely supplies of safe and quality-assured blood and blood products.
Dr.T Srinivas proposed the plan to the HOD and Medical Officer Blood Bank, NMCH & RC, to further discuss with District Health Officer, Raichur and get sanctioned a mobile blood donation van service to reach remote areas, for blood donation camps. DR.B Devanand highlighted the importance of preparing the student data base, for early and easy accessibility of blood and also emphasized that one unit of donor’s blood could save three lives.
Donors with maximum number of blood donations and those who motivated people at large to voluntarily donate blood, were felicitated by the dignitaries.
A total number of 54 units of blood were collected from the voluntary blood donors which included students and staff of Navodaya group of Institutions and others, Raichur. The conduction of the entire camp was highly appreciated by the authorities and deemed to be a resounding success.
