The Department of Pediatrics at NMCH & RC

The department of Pediatrics is the branch of medicine that involves the medical care of infants, children, and adolescents.

Department trains all undergraduate students in Integrated Management and Neonatal Childhood Illness (IMNCI), assessment of sick infants. Pediatric cardiology follow clinic on Thursday afternoon.

Department Activities

Conducted NALS & PALS certification workshop
Conducted BLS Workshop for postgraduate, Interns & Nurses
Postgraduates Seminar, Journal club and case presentation are conducted weekly
Mortality meeting are conducted once in a month
Dissertation review meeting to evaluate progress of postgraduate performance is conducted every quarterly
Dr Pranam GM and Dr Usha are PALS and BLS course trainers who conduct these programs regularly
Regular weekly Training Centre for IMNCI seminar for Post Graduates
Conducted training for midwives on “INFANT & YOUNG CHILD FEEDING” in association with BPNI Karnataka chapter
Free Screening for cleft lip & cleft palate.
Swine flu awareness programme at KV school, Janashree Public school, Nisarga vidyalaya
Pulse polio programs and Frequent school health camps
Activities are conducted routinely to reach the target of Mission Indradhanush
Postgraduates participated in NCPIC 2019 (National conference of IAP Intensive care chapter) KAR PEDICON 2019 state pediatric conference and RESPICON 2019 HUBLI and presented posters and papers at all the above events.

NeoNatal ICU

Navodaya Medical college Hospital & Research Centre Inaugurated most advanced NeoNatal unit on 12th March 2011 in North Karnataka Region. The 12 bedded NeoNatal ICU is equipped with the latest facilities for new born. It includes modern adequate ventilators, 12 warmers, 3 units of photo therapy (Double & single surface), multi para monitors, facilities for exchange transfusion, microprocessors for relevant investigations like trans cutaneous estimation of biochemical values, ABG, auto inflating blood drawing equipment’s etc.
The initiation of newer therapeutic modalities, artificial life-support techniques, dedicated professional team working round the clock and infection control mechanism will decrease the mortality in newborn. The ICU team is highly qualified with experience abroad and is capable of dealing with complicated surgical cases. The department of pediatrics also provides other services like parent & family counseling to explain the short and long term outcome of the condition and the treatment, parent education, child development Centre, immunization clinic, child guidance clinic, asthma clinic, obesity clinic etc.
