Department of Forensic Medicine

Forensic medicine (often shortened to forensics) is the application of a broad spectrum of sciences to extract answers to questions of legal interest. This may be in relation to a crime or to a civil action.

The students are provided with an overview of the medico legal aspects of health sciences, components of toxicology and ethics. The department provides the medico-legal support to the post mortem diagnosis and other medico-legal cases of the hospital and its jurisdiction. The faculties provide comprehensive guidance to the under graduates and post graduates to augment the scientific temper and research activity.

Facilities Available

  • The Department of Forensic Medicine at Navodaya Medical College, Raichur, has highly-experienced, qualified, teaching faculties and is equipped with the most modern equipment to conduct practical and research work in medico-legal problems and guide the undergraduate and postgraduate students.
  • The department museum gallery has wonderful collection of Forensic photographs (of various crimes, which are occurring in the society).
  • It has a whole range charts, models lethal weapons, poisons & wet specimens of medico legal importance.
  • The highly modernized mortuary block is housed in a separate structure to conduct medico-legal post-mortems and can be witnessed by students from a gallery in the autopsy room.
  • The mortuary block also has cold storage and embalming facility for better preservation. Since it is a branch of medicine related to legal aspects, the department has an excellent court room to conduct “mock trials” regarding legal procedures, which are to be witnessed by the MBBS students.

  • The Department of Forensic Medicine has a well-equipped research lab is existing to carry on toxicological analysis and HP. It also has a well-furnished court hall where mock trails are conducted.
