World Breastfeeding Week
Depatment of Community Medicine observed “World Breastfeeding Week” in the first week of August by organizing various Health education programmes for pregnant and nursing mothers on the benefits of breastfeeding. These programmes were carried out in rural and urban field practice area of Navodaya Medical College. Health Education for pregnant and nursing mothers was carried out on 03-08-2017 at Subcenter, Singanodi. Dr.Kusuma, final year postgraduate student spoke about the importance of colostrum, exclusive breastfeeding and the benefits of breastfeeding to mother and the baby. She taught the mothers the right positing of the baby and attachment while feeding using the model of a breast and a doll. Dr. Vandana, second year postgraduate student spoke about the complimentary feeding practices. A similar Health education programme was carried out by Dr.Lakshmi at Urban Health Center area. About 30 pregnant and nursing mothers were present. Dr.Ayesha, Associate Professor, Department of Commmunity Medicine and Dr.Arshiya, Assistant Professor were present in the programme. The programme was co-ordinated by Dr.Arshiya, Assistant Professor, Department of Community Medicine.
